Day +1: The Itching

The itching is driving me insane. My hands, my abdomen, my chest. Alternating with burning up like I’m on fire, yet I have no fever. I can’t take much more of this.

I’m assuming that this is graft vs host disease, and not sure what more they can do beyond the current standing meds.

Here it is,  1:30 am, and I am wide awake.   The nurse called the doctor and the doctor said (why do I feel the urge to complete the sentence with, “No more monkeys  jumping on the bed…?”) to try another antihistamine. So that is on order. And then the nurse suggested Ativan to help me sleep.  NO FREAKING WAY.  See my D-1 post on what that stuff does to me.

Arrrrrrrgh. No itch. Sleep. Too much to ask??!

Rant over.  Waiting for new sleep aid to take effect.  Please, dear God, let it work.

  1. Try to rest and take it easy, Take your mind away from the itching if you can. When the itching gets too bad, think of your boys and how much you love them. Prayers are always with you.

  2. Did they prescibe a topical treatment as well? You could also have really really dry skin because of the AC or the water in the shower. They should be giving you something you can put on when you feel this way as well. If anything it will have some effect on your psyche instead of waiting for the doctor to prescribe something. Hope the sleep aid worked. Make sure you feed those monkeys today.

  3. I cannot imagine your misery. I have had acute allergic reactions to meds (never take that Lexiscan again) — and felt like ripping my skin off! One night I spent most of the night in the shower with cool water running on me — just to get relief. Predizone helps me sometime but I suspect you are all ready on that. Hang in there!
